MastoPrompts: Kindred and Trace

This was a vague history of being a Detroit Lions fan. The third stanza is the 2021-2022 season. The team was passed down from Marth Firestone Ford to her daughter, Sheila Ford Hamp, who replaced the GM and coach with Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell and gave each a 6 year contract because this was to be a full rebuild of the team.

The 2021-2022 season was wracked with injuries and dead cap space, so they started signing undrafted free agents and signing people from practice squads across the NFL to fill in gaps instead of trading. Despite that, their record ended up being 3-13-1, each win coming after the offensive coordinator, Anthony Lynn, was mostly fired. His role was replaced by the tight ends coach (Ben Johnson) and Dan Campbell working in concert with Campbell calling plays.

The Lions have started the 2022-2023 season and lost 38-35 to the Philadelphia Eagles and won 36-27 over the Washington Commanders.

There are fans with frozen souls
Of a team with no Super Bowls
These kindred spirits always hear
"You guys suck, always next year"
For 30 years they really blew
No playoff wins since '92

When the team fails then they just think
Of dark humor, memes, or turn to drink
To deal with horrors that they face
Or try to dissolve any trace
Of coaches and GMs that are thick
Or players that can't do the trick

They say a fish rots from the head
So we had to wait till the owner's dead
Or passed the team down to their daughter
Who appears to be much smarter
And got people in who knew the game
Could work together and do the same
Got a new GM and a coach
From other teams that they could poach
It's 19 games in and we'll see
What is our new trajectory
